1.2 is a small % of the people who chose Sirius over XM thanks to stern.
The deal paid for itself and saved the entire company.
I have to agree with you that Goblin brought awareness to the whole
satellite radio thing.
Even if I wasn't a goblin fan....I might have said ....let me look at the
programming that each provider has and then make a decision.
Before goblin announced his move over to pay radio....it seemed like xm was
the default option for all new subs. So there has to be a number of sirius
subs....who don't listen to goblin....but were made aware of sirius
programming....which influenced their buying decision. There's just no way
to quantify that unless a survey was done focusing on that scenario.
But as far as listeners....he only has 1.2M...and that seems much lower than
anyone would have expected considering the audience that he had while still
on free radio.
I have no facts....but I'd bet that a significant amount (300K to 500K) were
listeners to goblin.....and then cancelled due to all the negatives that you
are already aware of.
I don't foresee his audience numbers going up.....but do anticipate more
fall out....from current listeners that eventually say it's not worth it.
The bad thing for goblin is that most people signed up around xmas
time....and therefore their renewal dates are around the same time....and
it's this time of year when goblin takes the most vacation....and that seems
to be the number one turn off for listeners.
