I'm long on TIVO. I do trade the swings but I'm basically holding
long. I'm waiting for the decision on the DISH appeal. If it goes in
TIVO's favor(again) the stock should see a 7 point pop overnight.

sounds like an insightful move..I wasn't aware of the appeal. All I'd
advise is that if the appeal goes against them you better have a tight stop
in place and keep your fingers crossed that price doesn't blast south right
through it.
I trade it, but always stay long overnight.

I really suck at reading charts. I have a couple of books, but can't
find the time to read them. As long as I keep making money I know all
I want to know.... :)

Check this overview out, it's pretty decent for a freebie.....invest an
hour or two, and at the very least, you'll gain a rudimentary perspective
of what prompts more than half the market to behave as they do, (especially
the preponderance of institutional mechanical/automated trading programs).
Who knows, maybe it'll even help you time your entries and exits, eh?
