You got it right. The play looked putrid and worthy of ridicule, but the kid
is entitled to her own life without being dragged down by her father's
baggage. Her position is not enviable, because she's lost the freedoms most
of us take for granted. Yes, Howard basically painted a big fat target on
her back by his focus on other kids of celebrities. If there ever was any
sort of gentleman's agreement to skip over family members, it would be
easier to ignore in this case.
Aside from that, I'd expect that Emily's parents, or just about any parents,
would try to steer their daughter clear of this sort of spectacle. But she's
old enough that she can't be stopped from making her mistakes.
