Book 7's way also creates a new problem. Just like the posts about
killing your keeper to keep it secret, now we have V sending a DE to
befriend the Secret Keeper, than kill the keeper. Now DE's the
keeper, and he tells V. Ten to 1, besides controlling a person's
actions, the curse can let you control what they say. Make then tell
you, kill them, and now you can tell whoever you want. Way to make a
secret keeping spell, wizards.
The entire thing went AoT once she'd decided *anyone* could be secret
keeper and the explanation of why Snape couldn't tell was idiotic.
For starters... that "Tongue Tie" curse would make no difference to
anyone who could write! :)
And then there's the problem with the side-along apparition being
enough to create a new 'secret keeper'. Even if Snape couldn't *tell*
them where the place was... he just needed to apparate onto the front
step with someone... anyone... and they could then tell 'whoever'.
I just decided Hermione was wrong for a change and that Yaxley
*hadn't* become a secret keeper... made it a lot easier to deal with.
The problem is Lupin and a few others back up HG's information. That was
the point that gave away which side snape was on. It messed up the twist
at the end for me. for if snape was a secret keeper, then he had to be on
Harry's side or all the de's wouldn't be waiting at the door.
As for the DE's outside. They were attracted by use of Voldemort's
name to the spot
No. the name bit had to be done after the trieo left number twelve. if
they had used V's name there, some of the spells would have come down.
maybe not all, but some.
so they didn't need to know the trio were holed up
inside... just that somewhere in that area was a wizard taking the
Lord's name in vain! :D
I agree they people outside didn't know who was in there, but I don't think
it was the name bit. That spell had other side effects, and if it was
already up when Lupin visited harry and co, Lupin would have warrned them
right off. My bet was on the spell letting the mom know when people use
magic. It wouldn't take them long to realize no listed wizard or witch was
said to live there. Black said it was unplotable so the mom's maps
couldn't have it listed. However, magic would have been detected in the
area. The people sitting outside, knew where to look, they just couldn't
get in.
I think that group was the reason V did the name bit. I think that spell
took awhile to cast.
Which leads me on to the stupid decision of the film director who felt
having the house force the other two aside was an adequate way of
demonstrating how the spell worked. It they'd had to wait for that in
DH they'd have been in serious trouble! Grrr.....
IMO a better way of handling it would have been for the house to
miraculously 'pop' into place and have Harry stagger backwards in
surprise!
True. Just one of many mistakes they made without even knowing they made
them.
