I think the artist didn't know how it was used in the story. And did
what they liked instead of ring sized. Then again maybe some one used
an enlarging charm on it.


Also, McG is listed in the forward as headmistress of Hogwarts. How
long did she run things until a permanent replacement was found?

No idea. did anyone hear the anser to this in an interview?
