Voldy's second job-seeking visit to Hogwarts

I was just wondering about the timing of Voldy's second visit to Hogwarts, which Dd shows in the pensieve in HBP:

- Voldy left school around 50 years before HBP takes place (well, 53 or 54 years before), then appears to spend just a year or so at B&Bs before disappearing after he murders Hepzibah Smith.

- Dd says it was 10 years later that he returned for that memory he shows in the pensieve, so that's around 43 years ago.

- Dd also says that when Voldy didn't get the job, he cursed the post so no-one could hold it more than a year - but that means the curse lasted for 43 years, and Dd never managed to lift it!

- Also, I'm not sure why, but I got the impression Quirrell was one of the first to suffer the curse - there'd been a couple of teachers before him yes, but not 40-odd!

It just doesn't seem to quite add up to me, or have I missed something? Or is it JKR who's not adding up?!
