: Bullying is often more about psychology than physical power.
:
: One of the things I like about the Potterverse (as I identify with it
: strongly in an allegorical (?) fashion) is the way that despite - perhaps
: even because of - the way the Dursleys tried to "squeeze the magic out of
: him", Harry still ended up being ok, and a good wizard. Now imagine if he'd
: accepted their teachings that magic was terrible and he was evil/ unclean/
: second rate because he was a wizard. He'd probably have little if any
: self-esteem, a bit like Merope.
:
: Snape's mother may have been similar in that she may have accepted being a
: witch was wrong and so didn't have any self-esteem and/or hated herself in
: which case she'd have been an easy target for an abusive muggle husband and
: probably wouldn't have felt able to fight back; even that she *shouldn't*
: fight back using magic as that would prove how bad she was.
The problem with that theory is that she clearly taught him to aspire
to be a Slytherin, with the attitudes that characteristically went along
with that...quite the opposite of its being wrong to be magical. And who
else would have been the source of his disturbingly-advanced Dark Arts
knowledge when he got to Hogwarts?
It's possible that she had low self-esteem because of being rejected
by Hogwarts boys her age and felt she had to stoop to marrying a Muggle
and beat herself up about that.
I have a hunch she left Tobias as soon as Severus was grown.

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
