So this one *did* work as per the legend... as did the cloak...

The cloak was not as concealing as the legend portrayed it to be.
Dumbledore saw through it in Book 2. What made the cloak better than
the "standard" invisibility cloaks was it's maintainability.

We don't really know he saw through it... though it is true the 'false
Moody' did using Mad-Eye's eye. Even so, the book said the cloak
protected the wearer from death. I don't recall that point ever being
explored properly.

Did anyone ever receive a direct (if accidental) hit with a spell
whilst wearing the cloak I wonder??

Not that we learn of in the books. Which means it's even harder to know if
the cloak is a DH other than Dd's word for it - something like that should
have occurred, the cloak shielding from magic or an attack to show it was a
little bit more than your average invisibility cloak :)

Someone did point out Draco managed to immobilize Harry whilst he was
wearing the cloak so I doubt it would deflect a killing spell. So it
clearly *didn't* work as well as we were led to believe in the story,
i.e. as a 'shield from death' !! :(

I think you're taking it too literally. Sheild from death as hide
from Death, as the ultimate invisibility cloak. Hence it never
wearing out, and still bestowing invisibling powers on it's wearer. I
doubt it was meant to block an AK. You need something dense for that.

Like Dudley??? :D
