Just rereading volume 7 and I start to find it very puzzling why DD
would wear Marvolo's ring. Clearly the hunt for the horcruxes is
secret and informing Voldemort too early that DD has uncovered his
very secret scheme to reach immortality wouldn't be a very good idea.
True, nobody would recognize the ring as one of the hallows or as a
horcrux, but already the mention by a stranger or one of the
deatheathers' kids at Hogwarths that DD is wearing a strange ring
could create suspicion enough for Voldemort to go and check up on the
ring in the shed. Why would JKR have DD wear it? For the purpose of
the story it would have been enough if DD had it on his desk when
Harry showed up for his lessons, IMO.

“When I discovered it, after all those years, buried in the abandoned
home
of the Gaunts—the Hallow I had craved most of all, though in my youth
I had
wanted it for very different reasons—I lost my head, Harry. I quite
forgot that
it was now a Horcrux, that the ring was sure to carry a curse. I
picked it up,
and I put it on, and for a second I imagined that I was about to see
Ariana, and
my mother, and my father, and to tell them how very, very sorry I
was . . .

He obviously made it back to his office and destroyed it with Godric's
sword.

Though, since the diary and the locket had been destroyed without
Voldy
knowing, then I doubt it would have caused too much attention. More
likely
his charred hand would.

Jon.

Actually Voldy did know about the diary and the locket wouldn't be destroy until over a year later.

Unless I'm mistaken [which is possible but always unlikely ;) ], there is no mention of DD wearing the ring in public. The only 2 times I remember it mentioned he was wearing the ring was with Harry, one time with Slughorn present. It was also mentioned once that he wasn't wearing the ring.

I think DD was screwed anyway... as far as Voldy possibility finding out.... Voldy would have known the blacken hand was from his curse [most likely].
