believe she is about okay for Hermione in the looks department. Now if

Her initial description is one of buck teeth and bushy hair... not
what most guys would necessarily go for.

She had a bossy sort of voice, lots of bushy brown
hair, and rather large front teeth.

There were very few references to her personal appearance. For the
ball in GoF she tarted herself up and looked good... but other than
that?? Next to nothing.

Maybe she just wasn't supposed to be that good looking?

Notice that Rowling never says that Hermione is not good looking either.
She did correct her buck teeth later and I like long haired women. I
think she could only have improved with age. The problem is the series
stops even before the characters have left teenage and doesn't really
focus on such things as looks, relationships etc. I don't Rowling is
very good as a writer in this department anyway.

On the balance I think she would've turned out as quite a nice looking
woman, even if she would never be beautiful.
