Second, I've noticed one detail I haven't seen remarked on elsewhere.
Recall that back in Chapter One, when Voldemort "asked" to borrow
someone's wand,

The faces around him displayed nothing but shock; he might have
announced that he wanted to borrow one of their arms.

That makes for an interesting comparison with Harry's request to borrow
Hermione's wand, which she grants without a single word! And in a later
chapter, we learn that Draco has borrowed his mother's wand.

So what is Jo trying to tell us? Is it only Death Eaters who
consider the loan of wand the equivalent of that of an arm? Or is the
idea supposed to be that Harry and Hermione are such close friends by
now that she really /would/ have lent him her right arm if he needed
it? Or that her (IMO misplaced) guilt over breaking Harry's wand in
the first place drove her to do something ordinarily unthinkable in
expiation? The case of Draco and Narcissa is a bit difficult to assess
since we don't really know whether or not Voldemort ordered to lend
her wand to her son.

Thoughts, anyone?

The thing about Draco having his mothers wand is to demonstrate by
allegory his fundamental 'weakness'. Underneath the bravado he's just
a mummy's boy at heart.

It also demonstrates Cissy's love for her son than she'd give up her
wand for him... a point reinforced and echoed by her treatment of
Harry in the forest and her and Lucius looking for Draco in the midst
of a life and death battle.

It's Jo telling us that 'love is all' :D
