Voldemort didn't die in PS/SS. I think that was a major point of the
whole series of books. His Horcruxes kept his soul bound to the earth.
Had he truly died - the story was over - as JKR has repeatedly said -
death is final - you cannot return.
Okay, better phrasing: back in PS/SS Voldemort's body died, possibly
as a result of being crushed when the house collapsed. Otherwise
his soul might not have been torn from his body to become VapourMort
while still living in a magical way because it was bound to the
earth by horcruxes (and not a ghost).
