Well, sorry but... You all say DD might have been evile because he
chose the Potters andnot the Longbottoms. Since we do not have the
Longbottom's death date, we can't say that it was not around the
Potters' one. Simply, The Longbottoms have probably died in battle
before the Potters, so Neville might have been protected by gran.

And therefore, with the doubt it might have been the other boy, DD
and wormtail (and Sirius) might have agreed the special protection
on the Potters. Lily's reaction is the normal mother's. No plot in
there imho. Just love. DD is not evil in there. Who says he didn't
try to protect the Longbottom child as well?

WHile we do know that the Longbottoms were  in St. Mungo's in the
books - we also know that Voldemort did not know the last of the
prophecy. So - as far as he was concerned - he did not know that
Harry was the "one" he marked. I continue to believe that Voldemort
"chose" Harry FIRST - because wormtail ratted out the Potters. I am
also sure that Dumbledore knew exactly what families the Prophecy
referred to immediately - and did not need Snape to tell him.
Dumbledore - as head of the OOP would have had both the Potters and
the Longbottoms put into protection.

Agreed, indeed.

No one except JKR will convince me that Voldemort never intended to
deal with the Longbottoms after he dealt with the Potters.

That's the point, if he had gone the other way round the result might
have been different (for poor Neville, at least)

However - there remains no reasonable explanation why Voldemort - NOT
KNOWING THE COMPLETE PROPHECY - did not also target Neville.
This is where the timeline gets tricky. Obviously - Snape went to
Dumbledore to tell him that Voldemort was going after the Potters
first. The question is  - How much time before the happening did
Dumbledore know? Dumbledore would have gone to Sirius  - and found
out that Sirius was not the secret keeper - something Sirius COULD
say(Dumbledore never did this though). Snape and Sirius both could
have told Dumbledore that wormtail was the secret keeper. But - not
knowing the secret himself - he could not have "found" the Potters.
Even Snape could not tell Dumbledore where the Potters were hiding.

Is this a key to explain the missing 24 hours? Might Harry have
survived some hours in the ruins while muggles and magicians were
running to the "blast" scene?

We still run into the Fidelius charm problem here. Wormtail was still
alive - even if they THOUGHT different. The secret was the hiding place
of the Potters. I would assume it included Harry. That means that only
those who KNEW the secret should have been able to find Harry in the
wreckage.

It is my thought that Sirius found Harry in the wreckage. Dumbledore did
NOT know the secret - he did not know Wormtail was the secret keeper.
Apparently - Snape couldn't tell him. Sirius did know that Wormtail was
the secret keeper so he likely was in on the secret. So - he could go to
the house and find Harry - when the only other people who could would
have been Wormtail and Voldemort (and anyone else wormtail told the
secret to among the Death Eaters).

It is also possible that once Lily and James were dead - and the house
was destroyed - the secret was no longer and therefore the Fidelius was
broken. THe problem with that is that would have left it for the local
muggles to find Harry.

Clearly Hagrid knew the secret, and it is inconceivable to me that
Dumbledore didn't know where they were.  It is NOT necessary for the
secret keeper to tell each person where the place is.  When Harry first
went to OOTP headquarters (12 Grimmauld Place), he was shown a parchment
with the address on it, which Dumbledore gave to the group that was
bringing Harry there.

There is a difference in knowing where someone is hidden and knowing
the SECRET of where they are hidden. Hagrid and Dumbeldore may have
known the Potters where hiding in GH but not been about to fiind them,
whereas Peter, Voldymort, and probably Sirius could find them there.
Hagrid knew where to go, but Sirius actually found Harry in the rubble
and handed him over to Hagrid.
