I'm sorry for your experience with nuns. I had a similar experience in
2nd grade in the public school system.

It is illogical to extrapolate the behavior/motives/characteristics of
an entire religion by the behaviors of individuals, just as it would be
illogical to extrapolate to public schools based on the actions of my
2nd grade teacher.

I believe its called the fallacy of composition.

Your assumption is wrong as well. I was not talking of an entire religion - simply of Catholic Schools.

Not Only did I attend Catholic School - K-12 - but so did my mother, father, and siblings - as well as numerous cousins, uncles and aunts. Still more - including grandparents attented catholic school for all or most of their educational life - while less than k-12. Two of my Father's brothers were Catholic Monsignors. My father and still another brother went to the seminary but left to become dentists (Another form of human torture?).

If mine was the only incident - I still would not understand it - but it would not reflect on the rest. However - it was not. The things I actually saw - and the stories from other family members alone are enough for me to say that it was not even close to an isolated incident.

IN Kindergarten - there were two punishments for failure to keep quiet. One was putting you on a chair behind the piano right next to the sounding board - during singing - while the nun banged away at your ears. The other was to lock you into a closet for the rest of the day. Interestingly - I was warned by my mother about this because she had the SAME nun for Kindergarten as well.

As far as religion - it served its purpose at a time when it was the government - in controlling people. It is now an anachronism that no longer has the power to do what it once did without question.
