If Dumbledore was so great, how come he couldn't prevent Riddle from
going over to the Dark Side? And how come he couldn't prevent James
from bullying Snape and causing him to go over to the Dark Side? DD
seems to have been there at every crucial moment in Harry's life, but
he sure wasn't for other students who needed him.

He needed to keep Harry alive and in the proper frame of mind so Harry would allow himself to die at the proper time by Voldemorts hand. ...
