Interesting hint at Snapes love...
If I was Rowling I would have replaced the word "power" with "danger".
Snape's life was ruined because he could not accept that Lily's love
for him would always remain platonic, and seek out someother woman.
Even in our world "obsessive love" has seldom accomplished anything
useful. Often it has only lead the protagonist to ruin.
One counter example I can immediately think of is the Mughal emperor
Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal in memory of his deceased wife
Mumtaz. Of course even here some would say that the whole endeavour was
a grand exercise of vanity and used slave labour.
It had been pointed out before that many times is also is dangerous for the target of the obsession. Even as a child, Snape is portrayed as "greedy" about Lily. And perhaps an adult Snape could have hurt her.
