I believe the point was that even when people do use their brains, the
outcome is not always good. That is why they developed erasable ink
and pencils with erasers right on top. One cannot just say that people
should THINK before they do something. Often - the best result comes
from something you do not think through. Similarly - those things that
you agonize over are not always successful.
Remember - If you have been to Texas - visual information would tell
you that the earth is FLAT.
Huh? I guess you haven't been to central Texas, or the 'Big Bend' area.

And which shape does the horizon have? Ever thought why what you see
is called sur"round"ing? I stood on top of the bay of Kotor in Croatia
a few years ago and it was one of the most impressive views I ever had
in my life. I could see way over the Adratic sea to Italy!!!
300kilometres! I´m sure from Italy noone could see the cliffs in
their total hight - if it was visible at all. And to your comparison
with the astrodome. Turn the point of view around and try to see the
tower from the farest point you can see from its top. You will
definately not see its basis. Guess why....
It would be hard to describe to someone who has never been there - as I
had been - my first trip to Texas. Just driving down the road you can
see for MILES and MILES - without a high vantage point. From the top of
the Astrodome you could see Oklahoma - hundreds of miles away.
As far as the horizon - on could think that the earth is flat and shaped
like a Pizza to explain the "round" effect.
And why can´t you see the basis of the tower in return? Why not the
cliffs ( more than 1200 metres high!) in their total hight at even
and smooth sea from Italy ( no buildings or waves in the way)? Why is
the view limited? Why can you see further if you are on top of a tower
than if you are on the ground? If the world was flat we should be able
to see much further than those 15 miles on even ground when it is
clear view ahead. We can´t!
AS I said - I could see lots more that 15 miles - Oklahoma is more that
100 miles away. Maybe you cant. Fact is - I can't either without my
glasses. Still - the land looks as flat as can be when I have my glasses
on. My point was not about the earth being flat or whatever shape it
really is (pear shaped - not round) - my point was that the Brain is not
infallible. People can use their brains to make BAD decisions, and wrong
decisions, as well as right and good ones.

Definately right. But do you want to say that we should therefore not
use our brains at all? Because we might come to the wrong conclusion
or decision? And say "well, if I might be mistaken anyway I´ll just do
what I feel like and that´s it?"

No - I never said that.

What I said is that the statement "people should think before they act" - ie use their brains - does not preclude people from making a mistake or doing something that others do not consider correct. Since the thread was snipped - it is not as obvious what I was referring to.

AS far as the earth being slightly pear shaped - that was discovered by the first astronauts. If you google "pear shaped earth" you will find lots of supporting documentation.
