Either this was dismissed as obvious before I began reading this
group, or I have missed something obvious...

Can't you devide quidditch scores by ten and get exactly the same
result? 1 for a goal and 15 for the snitch?

I must be missing something here.

I thought the same when reading the quidditch rules, too. And I
thought the snitch was worth too much. The team that gets the snitch
almost always wins. The final in the QWC was a very big exception, so
what is the use of scoring. Why doesn´t everyone look for the snitch?
