You are wrong. JKR's characters are hers and hers alone and she is
entitled to use them, sell the rights to them and to stop those
without those rights from using them.
This person who has decided to take her work, without permission,
and use it for profit is so in the wrong there can be no defence to
their behaviour. It is little short of theft.
It gets tedious when you hear billionire whining about their lost
loyalties.
I am guessing you mean royalties?
Yes, although I think the mistake may not be too much of a mistake, as
she is losing the loyalties of many.
to quite a few people. But, she does work in the entertainment
industry which is very quick to enforce it's property rights. But, it
does kinda of remind me of Madonna getting her nose out of joint about
people tramping across her land in Scotland, where cutting across
other people land is legal. In the US, it isn't, but a lot of
property owners don't assert their rights, especially when the
trespasser is a child. Like intellectual property, many people don't
see the harm done to the property owner.
The equivalent of JR Rowling charging for toilet can be read in this
story -

This infringement was no childs' play. these people in India spent a
lot of money building a castle that they clearly labels as Hogwarts
and were making major use of Warner Brothers and Rowlings property.
Even so, they worked something out.
See how much she has lost her soul. That she lost the case showed that
she wasn't even in the right, but used her money and power to intimidate
other people.
When the infringer turns out to be a kid or a school, they usually
work something out. However, Steve is no kid, in fact he's a
librarian and should know where to draw the line between his rights
and Rowlings. So, it is possible that this is the ideal case for
working this out. I do hope that the arguments and the results are
made public.
To give it its full title, you are jealous.
Money doesn't mean much to me, but it sure means a lot to you and
Rowling, doesn't it?
Didn't Rowling say she was doing it for the principle? Or, is she
doing it for the principal(sic)?
