You are wrong. JKR's characters are hers and hers alone and she is entitled to use them, sell the rights to them and to stop those
without those rights from using them.

This person who has decided to take her work, without permission,
and use it for profit is so in the wrong there can be no defence to
their behaviour. It is little short of theft.

It gets tedious when you hear billionire whining about their lost loyalties. I for one don't care a jot if she lost anything. And
it is not theft, or even short of it.

As I have said before, it is within her right to sue, but it is not
right for her to do it (a concept which is lost on some here).

Apparently the concept is lost on YOU.

You asserted if it is within her rights, then it must be right for her to do it. That is clearly wrong, indicating that you either have a very sheltered upbringing and have no experience of complexities of life, or just too young and naive.

Steve never asked for permission to use JKR's material. What would
have been right is for HIM to ask BEFORE he wrote the book - not
after. This is simply correct manners. We do not know if he would have
been given permission - but at this time - JKR has been given no
choice. It is Steve's fault that the lawsuit has been filed - not
JKR's.

Oh, plenty of people didn't ask for permission, and they don't got sued. I suspect JKR will have people combing the country now to sue for copyright infringement, she got the money and the power anyway. She can do what she wants within her rights, but don't ask us to be sympathatic to her. She is an immensely rich and power-mad control freak.

You are the young and naive one. I have worked in the entertainment industry (Movie and TV production) nearly all my life and am 66 years old. I have dealt with issues like this more often than I want to count. It is you who have a very sheltered upbringing - and are young and naive. You are not living in the REAL world, sonny.

However - you decided to reduce this situation to what is right and what is wrong - not legal rights. What that means is that you cannot look at how much money WB or JKR has. That is not the issue. The issue is whether a person is right to use someone else's property without permission. Clearly - it is wrong - whether it is YOUR car - or JKR's copyrights. It makes no difference whether YOU have lots more money than the person who stole your car - they still are wrong to take it. When that person who stole your car is found - you will sue them for doing so - in some way. The government will "Sue" them on your behalf for having committed a crime - and your insurance company will sue them if they paid you for the car.

Now - we are talking about the real world. In the real world, copyright infringement is theft of property. I don't know where you were brought up - but in virtually all civilized countries - theft is still WRONG. I cannot believe you were brought up to believe otherwise. I really don't care if you are sympathetic toward JKR - you clearly place no value on your own possessions - and will not care if someone takes your car.

I do not see how you can say that she is a power mad control freak. It does not agree with th FACTS. She has allowed lots of Fanfic and internet sites to use her property - when that would not be the case with others. She has allowed more use than any other large production company would have. Believe me - this is a no win situation for her. She has no choice but to protect her right to property she has licensed to others.

Steve could have either sought permission - or licensed the use. He chose not to. Steve has already been told not to infringe in the past without suit - maybe with a warning - but he stopped selling the merchandise.

IT is your warped sense of right and wrong that allows to to justify stealing from someone who is rich. The real world doesn't work that way - and more important - IT IS NOT RIGHT.
