Sorcerer's Stone, Chapter 17. Harry enters the chamber where the
Sorcerer's Stone is hidden, and finds Quirrell and Voldemort trying to
extract it from the Mirror of Erised, which shows the viewer whateer he
most desires. When Harry looks at the mirror, his deepest desire is to
find the stone without using it, so the mirror drops the stone into his
pocket. Dumbledore later explains that only one who wanted to find the
Stone without using it would be able to get it out of the mirror. Since
Voldemort and Quirrell wanted to USE the stone, how would they have
gotten it out of the mirror if Harry Potter had not shown up?

Thats the whole point they wouldn't have been able to get it. Although I
have thought that Quirrel should have been able to get it because he did not
want it for himself he wanted it for Voldemort. Unless V had promised that
he could keep the stone after he had regained his body.
