Yep. They need to pass the NEWTS with superb qualifications on
just about everything to join the Aurors.

I've mentioned that on the LeakyCauldron.com forum already but, yes, I
does bug me that she has Harry as an Auror at 17. Look at the time
line: The Battle of Hogwart was on May, and Harry's 18th b-day was in
July... so he joined the Aurors office two months or less after
beating Voldemort? Oh, well, I guess he didn't any time off for
himself, or to have any of the standard training, or anything... d-:
