I am also a MacEvangelist, but I still wish I could get OS X to run on
my G3 Mini Tower again. It simply died and refused to reinstall.
Barbarossa:
The trick there is to use 'XPostFacto.'

No guarantees of course, but I had an early version of Mac OS X
running on an upgraded PowerMac 7600.

Thanks. I really haven't looked back into the matter since losing months
trying to get the problem resolved over a year ago. I simply decided to
embrace OS 9.2.2 after learning, without the help of Apple Support, that
there might not be a work-around for the cryptic error message I kept
getting. IIRC, I did not try XPostFacto because I couldn't find a demo
(or SN).
My brother-in-law is going to give me a G4 that his business doesn't
need anymore. Ideally, I will try to network that with my current system
and old peripherals in order to slowly work my way into OS X and
transfer whatever still works in "classic" mode (which I hear sux).
Barbarossa:
G4s a still very useful; most will hold 1.5 GBs of RAM and 4
HDs (with an HD expansion card.) Apple indicates that G4s with
867MHz CPUs or better will accept 'Leopard.'
G4s will also boot into Classic 9.2.2, not just emulation in
OS X, if you still have one of those old Classic apps you just
can't do without (like my wife: MacEnvelope.)
