If you want a micro-size PC (Mac mini) or an all-in-one (iMac)
is enough for you then a Mac can be a good alternative. But if
you already have a monitor and you need an expandable computer
it's better to get something else, especially because it
doesn't make much sense to pay for Mac OS X if you don't use
it.
Barbarossa:
Are you referring to using the Hardware or the Software?
The Mac Pro towers are very expandable with four SATA HD
slots, four PCIx slots, and eight RAM slots not to mention all
the wireless and digital audio stuff.
And up to eight 64-bit CPUs.
Item for item, feature for feature they are highly
competitive, and in many cases cheaper than a similar Dell PC.
So, there is no actual price premium that you have to pay for a
Mac; they just don't make low end stuff for "loss leaders."
As to the Mac OS X operating system, why would anyone NOT use
it? Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard' will be released in about a month or
less and there are at least three different ways to run Windows
on a Mac.
In fact, many people have found that the Mac Pro is one of the
best Windows PCs you can buy. But once you go Mac, you never go
back. ;^)
Is "Applelover" a dirty word?
There was a governmental campaign in Germany to combat the spread of
AIDS. It had an identifiable logo the wording for which was "GIB AIDS K
E I N E CHANCE" (GIVE AIDS N O CHANCE). As I look down on my desk, I see
a mousepad with the same logo saying "GIB GATES K E I N E CHANCE".
