Re: Snape took Voldemort the prophecy

For all those folks claiming Snape never did an evil deed and was only
caught up with the death eaters as a youthful indiscretion, etc. How
do you square the fact that he took the part of the prophecy he
overheard to Voldemort? I know there is some question as to what Snape
heard and relayed to Voldemort, based on Trelawney's account of the
events being different than DD's, but if we take DD at his word, and
Snape at his word, then Snape ran immediately to share with Voldemort
the following:

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born
to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month
dies..."

and maybe this (not sure where half breaks off):

"and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power
the Dark Lord knows not..."

Either way, Snape runs to V with information that will result in the
death of a child.

How is that not evil?

He only comes to DD when he realizes that Lily might be a collateral
casualty.

This, again, doesn't mean that Snape is an evil person at the time of
his death, but to suggest that he's not guilty of ever committing any
evil act or deed seems far-fetched.

I think you fighting a strawman. I don't know *ANYONE* in this group who said or thinks Snape *NEVER* did evil.

The comments about him not doing evil are *AFTER* he comes to DD and changes sides. I also think that most of us would agree that his motives for changing side wasn't pure.

I suppose the crux of the issue is just where being a rude, obnoxious, snarky, git slides over the line to 'evil'. Hard to say. And can one do evil things and still not be evil? Surely one can do good things, and not be good, right?
