Some of us consider bottom posting a waste of time (scrolling if nothing

read this, you fall into one of two categories:
1. Smart enough to remember the thread, and thus have no need to wade
through the repeated text below.
2. Need a refresher to remember what the thread was about, in which case
you can check.

Top posting saves time for good readers, especially if the poster takes the
time to edit the thread, as I'm about to do:

I put up with your bottom posting; I ask your indulgence for my top posting.
I am trying to be courteous, as I know you are.

"top posting" on USENET is considered very impolite. It also
disrupts the continuity of the thread. Thanks.

I started out here top posting and got scolded as well. I understand
there's a lot of threads and I see both sides of the argument. I find
that the posts answering paragraph within paragraph etc become WAY
confusing. For example, at least three or four times now someone has
answered say one or two comments I made to someone's post and then
onto answer other people's posts in the same reply and some odd stuff
is happening. Ie in one instance it seemed the person was trying to
"get me" on something and answered my stuff then another person's....
only the other persons was against what I said. This meant he
contradicted himself! And in a couple more posts, people thought it
was me who said something and it wasn't.

Personally, I wish people would BOTTOM post all at once. For example,
each person who makes the last comment is easy to see who did it. The
only thing is it might take a few cutting and pasting quotes. But
what happens is EACH person's header is shown under each post so the
thread is easy to follow.

However I am a latecomer to this group and I have no say what happens
here. I feel since I am not one of the founders I just go with the
flow. Though I do find it all very confusing.

PS in alt.collecting.autographs, most people bottompost only (no in
between paragraph responses) and we've never had confusion. It
actually works better because if someone lies, all you have to do is
scrollup and read the entire thread and their name is right above what
they wrote.
