Had Snaped killed anyone before Dumbledore?

I apologise if this had come up before and I will declare my position
at the outset as a Snape fan.
In my post potter musings this question occurred to me. When
Dumbledore told Snape that it was his task to kill him to save Draco
from 'ripping' his soul by murder, Snape protests, 'What of my soul
Dumbledore, mine'.
Dumbledore of course points out that for Snape it will not be 'murder'
merely a mercy killing.
But does this not imply that Snape had never yet killed anyone? I
would find it hard to believe that anyone would be admitted as a Death
Eater without some ultimate proof of loyalty. Similar to the Mafia '
made man' you had to kill on orders.
I then fell to wonderimg whether Snapes full membership of the DE was
quite recent when James and Lily were killed. As he was not a 'pure-
blood' it is possible that in the early days he was a protege of
Malfoy's and thus a 'second rank' member rather than in the inner
circle. Perhaps the supplying of the Prophecy Info was accepted as
sufficient for his ' full membership'. That then led me to wonder
whether when he supplied the overheard prophecy that he was unaware
that Lily was pregnant. There is no reason whey he would have known.
That of course would have deepened the horror for him when he
discovered that the price of his coveted acceptance into the inner
circle was likely to be the death of the woman he loved. This
explanation would add weight to the scene where he tells Dumbledore
what has happened and transfers his loyalty to him.
I want something symbolic for the act of transfer. Snape Is on his
knees, disarmed, he makes the promise ' 'Anything'. I think at the
very least Dumbledore must hand back his wand, which until that moment
has been pointed at Snape along with his own. Dumbledore deftly
reverses it and hands it back to Snape who must touch his hand to
receive it back. Am I wanted too much, maybe but it seems to me that
such a profound switch of loyalty must be confirmed with some kind of
symbolism.
Thoughts please?
