I strongly suspect that for most fathers the zeal with which they defend
their daughter's 'honor' far beyond that age of consent has to do with
sublimating their own physical response to them.

Never underestimate the persistent of the traditional double standard
when it comes to sex, but yes, I suspect you're right.

This is particularly true when the daughter very strongly resembles her
mother at the same age.

I suspect it's also particularly true of men who treated girls badly
when they were young and assumed all other young males are the same.

It may also have something to do with the age of consent being
ridiculously high in the US. US law in this regard was much more
realistic in the bad old days when everyone was supposedly so sexually
repressed, curiously enough.
