I have better question. Why didn't they simply go back

Squad was incapacitated, weren't they? Even if they
weren't, the kids could have taken them down again and

Is hogwarts even connected to the MOM? Somehow, I doubt Fudge's
paranoia would allow for DD or the DA to just barge on in and take
over.

I think Arthur or Ron said you can travel to all houses that are connected via the Floo Network. If Hogwarts is connected to it, and the MoM obviously is, then probably you can travel to the MoM via Hogwarts fireplaces.
