Thanks for the info. If the truth be told, I usually don't bother with ripping and compressing the books as it takes an eternity and stretches my old Mac to the limit.

Ahh, still using MT-Newswatcher on Classic, I see. Yeah, I remember when ripping a 60 minute disk took 90 minutes - put one in, go have dinner, wash the dishes, watch some news, go back and check the disk.

The new Macs are SO much faster. You can rip a disk in as little as six to eight minutes. When ripping a Book-On-CD I find that the most useful tool is a Clipboard Manager like 'CopyPaste' which holds all the Mp3 tags in a list (or queue) such as Artist (Author), Album (Book Title), Year, Composer (Read by ...), &c.

Do your public libraries carry Audio CDs? I am fortunate to have access to the fairly large San Diego county [California] library system that will send on-line requests to my local branch from as much as forty miles (~60 Km) away. Often there is a waiting list, though.

For other requests not available at the library, I have had to resort to a book service (rather like NetFlix) that rents Books-On-Cds (including some Mp3 disks) for a monthly fee.

Even my laptop, with an old Centrino M processor rips pretty fast. And I can do it while I read a good story. I sat and ripped my whole 10 CD classical collection in about an hour.
