The real question to me is why not redo the lang so it would work for every
one.
Every homophone would need to be altered so that no-one could confuse
what is actually being said (witness BARE and BEAR
But when talking every one already does make that dection based on the words
around it. And many people like me always did the same thing with writeing. In
fact most people understand by context more then by correct spelling. It takes
only a few weeks to learn to do this. While understanding the exsact words as
they should be spelled is never posable for eveyone. In fact most people
understand more by the words around the badly picked or spelled ones as it is.
above), this would
lead to confusion with other words
No. Once people got the hang of doing the same context understanding as they do
with the spoken word it would be all the same.
People only know the diffrence between there and their when it is writen as it
is. when spoken they are the same word. The only reason that you belive there
is a diffrence between them is you are taught it. But when saying these words
they are the same. Your mind already make the guess as to witch writen word it
is by the rest of the words around it. Do to my learning disabilty I didn't
understand the diffrence until I was in sixth grade. even now I am never sure I
am useing the right one.
if you changed the dictionary so both words included the meanings in twenty years
no one would be thinking it odd.
so they will have to be changed and
then who decides what words stay the same and what words are to be
changed.
You mised the hole point. The comment was to change all the words to match the
sounds we really speak. with each letter haveing it's own sound all the optional
words that are new would fit in there own way. The only problem would be to pick
witch accent would be used.
Many langs around the world have had this sort of problem. Japan even came up
with a way to use a standerd keybord to write there own lang.
Not going to happen. Sorry Richard but there will always be
things that are hard (perhaps impossible) for the unsighted to do .
I was talking about more then the unsited. I also never said I expected the idea
to be done. But in fact it has been done repetedly. english has done this many
times in the past to get it the way it is to day.
In fact we have one school teacher and a king to blaim for most of what is in to
days dictionary. and every year we add and lose words. Often it is less then
ten people who decid witch new words are to be added. A few years back they
decided to use the new word bling. amoung others. The moment they added it half
the writers in Holly wood started useing it in there scripts. so they would sound
edgy.
But that isn't the reason it won't happen. It is all the english teachers who
would freak out and write all the goverment people. As the english teachers
don't want the old changed as it would make there jobs harder it won't happen
fast.
That is why I said a slow change could do it. But you have to remember that the
editors that make the changes in the dicunaries expect the words to stay as they
are and don't really want to change every entery.
And as I said. I know we could change it but most people don't want to. It is
the willing to work with a patched together *** lang rather then fixing it
the intresting bit.
And if you understand how modern english was formed then you will understand what
I am talking about. if you don't understand how the english lang came about
there isn't much point in going on until you find out.
