These predictions are "penultimate" because I have to read the books
again one last time. But I must flee the lurking spoilers ASAP, so
here goes.
FIRST PREDICTION: Rowling is going to outsmart me no matter what, so I
have decided to go ahead and be BOLD AND DARING with my other
predictions. (Why be both wrong AND boring?) So UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES should you read these if you are 1) a whiny pain in the
ass, or 2) Molly Weasley.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: 1) Snape is NOT "Not Evil", nor Out for himself.
He is Good and loved Dumbledore! But he really really really hates
Harry Potter and is not just pretending. 2) McGonagall is EVIL!!! 3)
Harry will live. 4) Neville will NOT kill Bellatrix.
THE EVIL TWINS: George is Truly Evil, and Fred is very-messed-up! They
are ALSO collaborating with the enemy: Fred unwittingly, George
wittingly. (See other threads.)
THE GRINGOTTS PLOT: Voldemort has designs on Gringotts, which is the
reason he is involved in all those Diagon Alley businesses. We know
this because 1) Gringott's is a really cool place, and 2) we haven't
seen it since Book 1.
BILL IS AN IMPOSTER: A Death Eater has replaced Bill, who is being
held hostage to secure Fleur's cooperation with whatever evil plot
Voldemort has going at Gringotts.
GINNY IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED: I actually noticed a rather unpleasant
change in her behavior after being freed from Voldemort in Book 2.
Then there's those nice smells Harry keeps getting from her. And
she's the Seventh Child. We know from fairy tales that a girl born
after six older brothers tends to be bad luck . . . for the BROTHERS.
BLAISE ZABINI: A new character introduced at this late date? Why?
All we know about him is that he is in the Slug Club with Ginny,
Parkinson thinks he has a crush on Ginny, and his Mum has seven late
husbands to her credit. Hmm. Sounds like he and his Mum might know a
thing or two about LOVE POTIONS - those things Harry keeps getting a
whiff of off of Ginny. I think Parkinson was on to something.
PERCY IS DOOMED: Percy, working at the MOM, is in a position to
discover if Fred and George (major suppliers of magical merchandise to
the MOM) are up to something crooked or treacherous. If he did, a
logical course of action would be to confide in somebody trustworthy
in his own family. Since he is angry at his father, and his younger
siblings are hostile towards him, he might naturally turn to his older
brother Bill, who is, of course, actually an evil Death Eater.
Picking who to trust is not Percy's strong point.
BILL: The Real Bill and his pretty face will both survive.
(Otherwise how will we find out all this stuff)!
THE BLOODY BARON REVEALED: He is actually the ghost of Salazar
Slytherin. Those silvery bloodstains that Nick never asks about were
caused when Godric Gryffindor hacked him to pieces with that there
sword. (The Hat said he "departed", right?) One last ugly lesson for
our heroes in the inaccuracy of official histories.
PEEVES IS A HOGWARTS HORCRUX: The castle of Hogwarts is one of Tom's
Riddle Horcruxes, and Peeves is the manifestation of the soul
fragment, fed with student energy. I've gone into this theory (See
"The Sixth Soul Fragment") before. I've decided to go ahead and stand
by it because, well, nobody else is going to.
SNAPE VS. DEMENTORS: We've all wondered how he would deal with them,
and clues indicate he uses a method other than a Patronus. My guess
is he uses Occlumency to evade them - in a way similar to Sirius using
his animagus form. I PREDICT that we will get a scene where Snape
gets attacked by Dementors, and everyone assumes that he got eaten,
but actually he will turn up again fine later. Then, of course, he
will die horribly anyway!
LUCIUS MALFOY: Has already cut a deal with Dumbledore while in
Azkaban. DD told Draco that Lucius would be protected "when the time
comes". This indicates that Dumbledore does not expect Lucius to
remain "safe in Azkaban" for the duration of the War. We may expect,
then, another prison breakout - arranged or allowed by the Order --
which will include Lucius as an Order spy.
DRACO'S GREATEST FEAR: He's going to become a werewolf. This was
foreshadowed in Book 1. I hesitate to predict whether he will live or
die, but I am (reasonably) certain he will not graduate. At some
point in the story, he WILL be forced to wear a Weasley sweater.
(Okay, that's not a prediction, just a personal request to the July
Santa.)
HERMIONE'S GREATEST FEAR: If Hermione dies, McGonagall will kill her.
This was foreshadowed in Book 2. If McG does not get to kill
Hermione, she will kill Neville instead.
WHY DUMBLEDORE TRUSTED SNAPE: Whatever the reason, it wasn't Lily, it
wasn't ironclad, and DD had no guarantees. His trust actually was
TRUST, which was why Snape valued it. Young Snape will at some point
(in flashback) reprise Harry's "I don't want to be human" line.
PETUNIA: Was the Harry to Lily's Dudley when they were girls. She
will not die, but I can't confidently say the same for Duds and
Vernon. However, if Draco dies, then Dudley will surely survive (and
vice versa). Yes, they will all end up in Grimmauld Place.
PROACTIVE SLEUTHING:
Characters most likely to take a SHOT at finishing off DRACO MALFOY
include Fred and George (revenge for Bill), Bellatrix (punishment for
insufficient evilness), Voldemort (perverted obsession with tormenting
families), Fenrir Grayback, and Ron or Ginny Weasley.
If GEORGE is indeed TRULY EVIL in the young-Tom-Riddle mode, as I
predict, he will so demonstrate by cold-blooded murder of one or more
of the following characters: Draco Malfoy, Percy Weasley, Lee Jordan,
Verity, and/or possibly even Fred. FRED is capable of the murder of
Draco Malfoy, but not of Verity and DEFINITELY NOT of Lee or Percy.
I could make a few positive predictions here, but because I have no
faith in my Divination skills, and great faith in my Inadvertent
Jinxing abilities, I will refrain. Maybe I'll be back with more
predictions after I read the books again. If not, see you in July.
