But granting a minor favor, as a reward for doing something as

just doing the smart thing. (And he didn't even go through with it.)
Still makes no sense. He would not agree to it thinking it'll best
serve him to have Snape happy if he's just going to ill her two second
later.
I suspect that he never agreed to it. Which is why Snape went to
Dumbledore. He probably told Snape to go to hell, or, at best, said
something like "We'll see..." I think his decision to spare her was
probably a last moment whim. He had just finished off the last
serious threat (James), there were no other guards to stop his march
to Harry... One more AK and he was victorious. He was probably in a
(relatively) happy mood, and when he saw that Lily wasn't posing a
threat, and was just a whimpering fool (in his opinion), he remembered
Snape's request and thought "Oh, what the hell - why not?" So he told
her to step aside, probably thinking he was doing both her and Snape a
big favor (by allowing her the chance to stand by like a coward and
watch her own baby be murdered by a madman). When she refused his
offer and disobeyed him, he thought she was an ungrateful fool, and
worse, she was getting in the way of his killing Harry, so he just
forgot about his momentary attempt at generosity and killed her.
