I have tried to find arguments than support the theory that Snape
killed DD on request:
1) DD made Snape teacher for DADA, knowing this would be his last
year.
2) He froze Harry when they arrived at the tower without warning him.
Why did he do it if it wasn´t to prevent Harry from interfering.
3) Snape urgently needed a proof that he was loyal to V.. Only by
being close to V. he could keep his position as a spy for the OotP.
Wormtail was in Snape´s house - Snape said he was his servant but in
fact I think it is more likely that V. sent him there to have an eye
on Severus.
Snape also is contemptuous of how sloppy Wormtail is as a spy.
Bellatrix mistrusted him, too. DD sacrificed himself to
make sure Snape could keep his cover.
4) DD knows about Snape´s abilities which are not far behind his own.
He was weakened, incurably injured and old. Snape made the unbreakable
vow and it is likely he told DD. DD´s sacrifice was the only way to
get out of this problem.
5) DD most certainly knew that Malfoy was meant to kill him. Either
our Hero DD would have allowed a student to kill or be killed - the
likely punishment for Malfoy if being unsuccessfull - for no profit at
all or he would have Snape do it to give him credits with the DE and
V. ( see above).
6) Snape it close to tears with rage when Harry calls him a coward.
What can be less cowardish than killing his best and only friend on
demand and ruining his life by this action. He will be prosecuted from
now on not being able to show anywhere.
7) Snape was hesitating to kill him. DD only pleaded:" Severus,
please!" Anybody would have expected him to say: " Good, you´ve come.
Help to defeat these DE!"
In a less complex story, I would have expected Snape to attack the DEs
without having to be asked.
Why does he say "Please"? Did he really
think Snape would not kill him then if it was for V?
There are too many possible interpretations to decide.
I wonder if he
was to weak to disappear by a wink of his cloak! He never needed a
wand for that. He could perform magic - he froze Harry! Did he stay
there as a planned victim for Snape´s AK?
DD was getting weaker all the time. Also, we don't know whether
DD was holding his wand at the times we've seen him appear and
disappear silently. Apparation is not easy, and DD was very weak
by that time. Also, if he apparated away, that would leave the
situation unresolved _and_ whatever spell he was under would
probably kill him (or take him over) while he was somewhere
nobody could find him. If he merely became invisible, they might
attack the place where he was last seen.
It is interesting that Fawkes didn't come to the rescue. Fawkes
came to Harry's rescue when Harry merely expressed loyalty to DD.
Was Fawkes told to stay away? Or, since Fawkes waited to heal
Harry until after it was clear that Harry was innocent (GoF, IIRC),
maybe Fawkes could tell that DD was being affected by something
that Fawkes didn't want to heal?
8) Snape did it without even trying to pursuade Malfoy to do it
like the other DE.
That is a telling point for several theories.
