and yes, if anybody asked Lily to be spared, it was a 5 second deal.
Nobody hold sway over Voldemort. Which goes right back to the fact he
had nothing to gain by keeping her alive, and nothing to lose by
killing her. So, there's no way he could be agreeing to spare her to
control Snape. if he felt this request would benefit him he'd never
kill Lily. Clearly, keeping Snape obedient was not the motivation for
sparing people that night.
You're forgetting Voldemort's unstable temperament. He has a big ego,
a bad temper, and tends to lash out at anyone who displeases him. I'm
sure he thought he was doing Lily a big favor by offering to spare her
if she would just hand over her baby to be murdered. When she refused
to move out of the way, he simply lost his temper and killed her. He
could just as easily have pushed her aside in several non-lethal ways,
then killed Harry, but her refusal to obey him (after defying him
three times in the past) just pissed him off.
Doesn't seem to fit what we've heard. He doesn't sound angrier as
time goes in Harry's memory. He seems to recall he offered her a
chance, and she stupidly through it away. Anger doesn't play into
things much, except for anger that James dared attack him upon sight.
Perhaps the word "impatience" would be a better choice. Note the
quote: ""Stand aside, you silly girl... stand aside, now...."
Notice that "now"...
He's not used to being disobeyed, and after a few seconds he got sick
of waiting for her to do as she was told. So instead of just shoving
her out of the way, he simply killed her. That's because he didn't
really care about keeping her alive, he had no love for Lily. He was
just grudgingly trying to do Snape an easy favor. But not being the
generous type, LV wasn't going to put much effort into it, and he sure
wasn't going to tolerate disobedience to do so. If she didn't want to
live, then screw it, Snape wasn't _that_ important...
