That doesn't necessarily follow. All we know is that Hagrid
followed Dumbledore's instructions to bring Harry to Privet
Drive after he found Harry in the ruins of the Potters' house.
We have no idea why Hagrid was in Godric's Hollow to begin with.
He might have be attending to other business in the vicinity
when he spotted the crowd of Muggles starting to gather around
the smoking ruins of the Potter house... He may have then
rescued Harry, notified Dumbledore of his discovery (dead Potters,
live Harry), and then received instructions to bring Harry to
Privet Drive.
You need to re-read Hagrid's account from Book 3.
