7. Why was Slughorn the only teacher not fighting the Death Eaters

Because he was not in the Order. He wasn't the only teacher not
fighting. Trelawny, Grubbly-Plank, Sprout, Sinistra, Binns, Vector,
Hooch and Firenze also failed to participate, as did other unnamed
teachers of subjects not mentioned. Only teachers who were members of
the Order of the Phoenix participated. The only non-Order member (?)
involved was Flitwick, whose only involvement was to fetch Snape on
McGonagall's orders.

I'm not so sure. I mean, I think Death Eaters don't mind if you are
in order or not. They will kill you anyway. They didn't think befere
attacking the students. And, after all, they attacked the castle, and
since Sprout is The Head of House, she should go and be there to
defend her students. Anyway, Trelawny and Binns are teachers who (in
me mind) would not particpate, but Sprout definitely yes.
Sorry for my english xD I'm still not good at it.

As far as I know McGonagall isn´t in the order either but nevertheless
she fought! Maybe there were other teachers who fought, too but weren
´t mentioned. Or they were knocked out by the death eaters before they
could start fightling like Flitwick.

As Deputy Headmistress, I think she's required to fight to save the
children.

Yes. Any decent person (especially one in a position of authority)
would be morally required to fight to save children from a sadistic
werewolf...
