If anyone can answer this question, you probably can. What is the origin
of the Italian name Gondolfo? Could it possibly have any connection to
the Germanic "Gandalf", which predates Tolkien by milenia?

It's Gandolfo, with an a, and, according to a "name's book" i found onl.ine
it has German origins, it means either wolf or warrior. It's spreading goes
back to XVII century. Common, most of in Sicily, it is related to Saint
Gandolfo (XII or XIII cent,), a preacher of the order of Minor Friars. Day
of the Saint: 11th May. He was born in the North of Italy and spent most of
his preaching life in Sicily.
