Re: Goblet of Fire, director's cut?

Yesterday I watched the Goblet of Fire DVD for the first time and I
really felt the need for a Director's Cut of another hour to fill in
the holes. The film seemed to jump from scene to scene without making
much sense to link the scenes:
/scene/ arrival at stadium and presentation of world cup teams /cut/
rampaging deadeaters having their fun with some muggles /cut/ (etc.)
If I hadn't read the book I wouldn't know where to start to make sense
of it. Hermione and Ron were almost completely cut out of the film. At
the same time I thought the scene with the dragon was too long and
getting a bit boring.

I took my parents to GoF when it first came out and thought they'd be
horribly confused, not having read the book. My Mother was quite happy
with it as a film, so I guess it does make some sort of sense by itself.
(My Father wasn't interested enough to follow it properly, but that's
family outings for you. I must look and see if Al Gore's film is showing
this Christmas; he'd probably enjoy that).

After every single film, I've felt like they left too much out for it to
really make sense, and people who havnt read the book always seem to like
them. I think thay they proably get a very different overall sense of the
plot though, with much less depth. And those of us who have read the book
are waiting for all this stuff, and since we know its missing, we think it
must be confusing to others. Its hard to watch though, when you are
expecting the story to progress a specific way and then all of a sudden it
jump 3 chapters. Feels jerky to if you've read it, but if you havn't you
dont notice. These film makers know what they'er doing, and probably test
it on people who havnt read the book to see what they can safely cut.
