And before HBP would you have even conceived off the 'horcrux' idea?
Actually, myself and others have posted similar ideas well before HBP.
Dumbledore, himself, told us that some of Voldy's attributes were
transferred to Harry. No one knows for sure all that was transferred
and whether his soul (the part of a person that survives when the body
dies) or even a piece of it was transferred.. I speculated that Voldy
was tired of being in his 60's and for some reason wanted to start
over as a baby. Naturally, he wanted Lily to survive because a Mom
will love and take care of her kid no matter how bad he turns out. He
would not have wanted to be raised by the Dursleys. The problem that
Dumbledore, Snape, and the rest of the wizard world is in determining
whether the Voldy succeeded in essentially stealing Harry's body from
Harry. We know he didn't, and I think most people close to Harry know
he didn't, and now that Voldy has actually been seen, the whole
wizarding world should know. But, I first proposed this theory well
before Voldy went public, and certainly before the concept of a horcrux
was introduced. With a little tweaking to conform to the horcrux
concept, I still like this theory since it explains why Voldy wanted
Lily to live, and also why both DD and Snape acted so strangely to
Harry. DD, fortunately, figured out that Harry was Harry in the first
book, Snape probably knows, too, but what else Snape is concerned with,
I do not know.
Since horcrux is a word invented by Jo, having exactly the same idea
with all the details is not possible, but yes, similar ideas have been
discussed.
