Re: The HP Death Pool in now open!

The reprieve belongs to Snape. I think Rowling had intended him to die
in the act of saving Harry, leaving him a bequest of guilt as a frame
to the moral lesson that even people you dislike and detest are capable
of exemplary good. Now Snape will live, presenting Harry with the
constant living reminder that people you dislike and detest are capable
of exemplary good. In his wildest dreams Snape could imagine no better
revenge on James, that the hated shoe be on the other's foot, and that
his son--and through him, the whole wizarding community--should owe
their lives to him and have to thank him every day of his life for
their salvation. To that, Order of Merlin First-Class will be the very
finest but minor frosting. Snape will get a supremely happy ending: I
look forward to it.

--I hope you're right, but I fear you're wrong. If he does survive, the
Ministry will show how well they're protecting the people (after Voldie is
gone, of course) by throwing all former DE's into Azkaban (right next to
Stan Shunpike, probably). This will likely include Snape, and it would take
Harry Potter's word to save him. Harry will be embarrassed at being wrong
and still angry about Dumbledore's death. Unless Harry changes a lot from
where he was at the end of book 6, he'll be delighted to see Snape out of
the way and will think he belongs there for Dumbledore's death. Hermione
would try to explain why this is wrong (and stupid--the Muggle British were
intelligent enough to give Benedict Arnold a title and an estate, rather
than throwing him into Newgate) but we've all seen how well she's been
listened to before, haven't we? (presuming Hermione survives. If she
doesn't, nobody will have any such considerations except possibly Neville).

And the next Dark Lord won't have any traitors at all to spy for the Light.
Everyone will know how well _that_ was rewarded by the Order the time
before...

Just my speculation. I still think Rowling is going to enjoy killing off
Snape, whether he's a good guy or not.
