Rowling said the last word would be "scar", Swampy's JOKE was to
misinterpret that
"rule". The fact that his misinterpretation is really close to the
"rule" specified, without actually matching it, is what makes it funny.
Well, that's your opinion. As I said, some people think farting is
funny. And what you said above is the only POSSIBLY funny thing about
it, because all told it was a rather bland bit of prose by Swampy.

In MY (and Magic Mom's, and others') opinion, he wasn't paying
attention to the wording JKR used, so he messed up and made a joke that
doesn't work. I passed it up because it DOESN'T WORK.
Again, if she had spoken differently, the joke would have worked.
It would have been EXTREMELY clever, actually, if she had instead said
"the book ends with scar." Then, kudos to anyone who is creative enough
to realize the other possibilities (which of course Swampy and I would
have).
YOU are just mad because you had the same idea for the joke, lost your
chance to tell it, and now are jealous mad because someone beat you to
it.
No, I still wouldn't tell it, because it isn't funny. I never lost my
chance. I posted my replies BEFORE Swampy.
Probably yours wasn't as funny, because it didn't actually refer to
actual plot specific events, like Harry's partial responsiblity for
smashing Mr. Weasely's car.

A better "*scar" joke has been made since Swampy's, BTW. THAT one was
funny.

I made two serious endings. I have no problem with persons who write
joke endings. But, if you want to get all huffy when I *politely*
explain that your attempt at humor doesn't work...
