Snape was unenthusiastic.

When has Snape every been enthusiastic? He's Brititsh. He doesn't
show emotions. To him, this was long over due.

I'll unemotionally put your stereotyping of Britons to one side.

Speaking as a self-possessed example of the breed...

The relevant paragraph begins as follows...

"Snape, who was sitting on Dumbledore's right, did not stand up
at the mention of his name; he merely raised a hand in lazy
acknowledgment of the applause from the Slytherin table,"

Merely raising a hand in lazy acknowledgment is not the action of one
who is triumphant or victorious, and to say that he was really but did
not show it is merely a self-serving attempt to prove yourself right.

...I'd read that as the action of one who is smugly satisfied: 'Yes,
yes, I know I deserve it, but I was so obviously the best candidate that
I really can't see what you chaps are making all the fuss about...'

I certainly wouldn't cite it as proof that he was *unenthusiastic* about
the appointment; which I would take to mean that he was less than
pleased at the outcome!
