Re: why not release book 7 and film 5 at the same time?

The only way I could see that this wouldn't be good if you think that if
people buys the book one month... then they would see the movie one less
time because they just spent money on the book.

Once upon a time, record producers thought like this, so they put hits
b/w other hits on 45s. That's how you ended up with anomalies like five
Beatles songs on the Billboard Top Ten at the same time (or something
along those lines).

That is is very, very true! When I was working in radio, it drove me
crazy trying to decide which side of the record I should allow the
on-air talent to play. If I chose the so-called "B" side, I'd get
visits and calls from the record companies screaming "That's not the
song we want to push!" To which my response would be, "Then don't put
two great songs back-to-back on the same record!" It's funny, once I
got out of the business, my ulcer went away!

Generally, that's recognized today as not an ideal tactic. There's too
much potential for interference. You'd rather squeeze every last drop
out of each piece, rather than stack all the pieces together--the whole
would probably fail to equal the sum of its parts. That's not to say
that someone won't find some extremely creative way to make stacking the
book and movie against each other work--but it has to be pretty darned
creative.
