re-read my posts in this thread - Ive been fairly clear that I think the
whole locket with a note thing was a decoy to fool whoever drank the potion
(or whoever was with them) into thinking the locket was the Horcrux and it
had already been taken. That way they wouldnt suspect the potion was really
the Horcrux and that would give it time to take effect ie take control of
whoever drank it. Remember the Diary? It took time to take possession of
Ginny Weasley and so would the potion. So there was RAB - no one but
Voldemort used that cave before Dumbledore and Harry turned up.
