What if V was wrong, and making 7 Horcruxes isn't a good idea.
Slughorn was appalled at the idea of intentionally killing to split
yourself more than once (or at all). But 7? What if splitting your
soul weakens you? Notice how when V failed to AK Harry, he was ripped
form his body, and claimed sheer will power kept him going. But we
know he couldn't die, because he had 5 other Horcruxes lying around.
So, he should not have had any problems, apart form the wretched
existence we know this puts him in. So, what if, V as weakened from
the slicing and dicing, and so, his body's soul bit now dead, his
consciousness was wrenched from his body, but in a weakened state. So,
he needed sheer will power to remain awake, instead of passing out,
perhaps permanently. It was then he found a way to survived by
possessing others,d drinking unicorn blood, etc. Enough so at the
end, the ghost V flying away was now strong enough to stay awake as he
was supposed to years ago. And killing him might be easier still.
