One possible way would be to lock it up somewhere with no available source
of warmth or positive emotions, thus starving it to death.

Or maybe locking them in a place packed with positive emotion (the Room of Love in the mistery dept?). After all, Sirius in POA said he was hidden in a place where dems can't reach him; in GoF he was in a tropical island. Maybe a clear, sunny, uncontaminated nature works as a powerful natural patronus?
