Re: Regulus Arcturus Black

Rowling has said that all the information we need to discover who RAB

Has she now? As far as I can tell, she deliberately didn't answer that question.

MA: R.A.B.
JKR: Ohhh, good.
[All laugh.]
JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes?
MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far?
[Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here]
JKR: Do you have a theory?
MA: We've come up with Regulus Black.
JKR: Have you now?
MA: Uh-oh.
[Laughter.]
JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess.

ES: What's one question you wished to be asked and what would be the answer to that question?

JKR: Um — [long pause] — such a good question. What do I wish I could be asked? [Pause.] Today, just today, July the 16th, I was really hoping someone would ask me about R.A.B., and you did it. Just today, because I think that is — well, I hoped that people would.

MA: Is there more we should ask about him?

JKR: There are things you will deduce on further readings, I think — well you two definitely will, for sure — that, yeah, I was really hoping that R.A.B. would come out.

are you sure you're not confusing R.A.B. with the horcrux he/she stole?

--8<--
JKR: Well, I'm prepared to bet you now, that at least before the week is out, at least one of the Horcruxes will have been correctly identified by careful re-readers of the books.

of course, we haven't seen that many lockets in the books so far, so if the horcrux is the locket we saw in Grimauld Place, then the number of possibilities for who R.A.B. is will be greatly reduced. It could still be one or both of Sirius's parents, though.

Also, it was either
magic_mom or another user who told us that Rowling has said no new
major characters will be introduced in the last book.

Well, but is it really a new character if it's someone who's been dead for a while? Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that R.A.B. is Regulus, but that's irrelevant. My point is just that our guess is probably just as good as any of the translators'.

Don't quote me on this information, I've not read the interview
transcripts, I'm just telling it like I've heard it ;-)

Bah! That's cheating ;)
