I have one more thing.

It's one of the safest things in the world to accuse someone of
arrogance. If we try to defend ourselves...we're BEING ARROGANT!

Amazing!

Or we're being petulant or fussy or bombastic or typically egotistical
or we can't take a joke or we're acting superior, or we haven't
emotionally grown up like the rest of the world....

Anyway, I accept. I'm arrogant. So is everyone else, but they haven't
realized it yet and are therefore in worse shape, and this goes
especially for those who delight in painting an ENTIRE COUNTRY with the
"arrogant" brush.

Okay, two more things. I agree with JKR. I love the books as they are -
British - most especially because I LIVED THERE for a few years. (What
I wouldn't give for a Cornish Pasty or a Shepherd's Pie or a decent
Mars Bar sometimes...even a *fried* Mars Bar...sometimes....) I also
think this thread had the potential to be funny, if the OP had started
by slamming only American television and movies (let's face it - half
of them are crap) rather than starting with a 2000-mile-wide brush. I'd
happily go along.
