Why the HBP?



One thing ive been musing about.
Why introduce the HBP at all? Learning his identity does not seem to be
too important to the central story at all. Or is there some
significance to it that we dont understand at this point?That will come
to hit us later?
Maybe something to do with him being a Half-Blood perhaps?
